Developer Jeff Smith has proposed to rezone 22 acres of land at Nifong Boulevard and Bethel Street to accommodate plans for senior apartments and commercial use. Residents in the nearby Bedford Walk subdivision, however, are pushing against it, saying the plan could increase traffic and cause flooding. If the rezoning and development are approved, new additional public streets, a storm-water detention system, and a stoplight would be built on the land.
