CHART: Police procedure change results in fewer tickets
February 28, 2012 | 6:00 a.m. CSTIn November 2009, the Columbia Police Department changed its procedure for reporting accidents. The newest procedure is that officers responding to accidents do not write a state traffic report for non-injury, non-towing accidents. When a citation for accidents is written, a state traffic report is required to be filed. The CPD enacted the procedure change to reduce case workload on officers because the staff has not increased. From Jan. 1 to Feb. 15, 36 citations have been issued from accidents.
