CHART: Police procedure change results in fewer tickets

In November 2009, the Columbia Police Department changed its procedure for reporting accidents. The newest procedure is that officers responding to accidents do not write a state traffic report for non-injury, non-towing accidents. When a citation for accidents is written, a state traffic report is required to be filed. The CPD enacted the procedure change to reduce case workload on officers because the staff has not increased. From Jan. 1 to Feb. 15, 36 citations have been issued from accidents.
