Tornado forms near Salina, Kan., as Mizzou Storm Chase Team follows

April 30, 2012 | 2:12 p.m. CDT
An EF4 tornado bridges the narrow gap between thunderclouds and the flat expanse of farmland April 14 near Salina, Kan. The Mizzou Storm Chase Team followed this and other storm systems in Kansas as well as Oklahoma and Nebraska for three days. The storms' movements were plotted and coordinated from the basement of the Agriculture Science Building at MU by the MSCT's base team. Capturing this tornado on film and learning about the causes and conditions of tornado formation up close required the whole team, in the field and on campus, to work together.
