INTERACTIVE GRAPHIC: Suggested improvements to I-70

June 4, 2012 | 1:14 p.m. CDT
The Missouri Department of Transportation investigated improvements to Interstate 70 across Missouri from Kansas City to St. Louis. The oldest section of I-70 in Missouri were designed and constructed in the 1950s. The planned design life of the road was 20 years. The results of this investigation were published in 2009 in the Record of Decision for the I-70 Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement. Part of this study focused on 18 miles from Route BB to Route Z, which includes Columbia. The projected daily traffic rates demonstrate the need for I-70 to be reconstructed. The conclusions illustrated in this graphic are the suggested improvements to I-70 only. No funds have been allocated for these improvements and the improvements have not been approved.
