A morning parade in downtown Columbia kicked off the day's Memorial Day observances.
Four-month-old McKenna Hughes, left, and her mother, Kari Hughes, watch the Memorial Day parade for the first time on Monday in downtown Columbia on Broadway. McKenna was fascinated by the bands, especially the bagpipes, said Kari Hughes.

A Canadian Forces parachute team, "The Skyhawks," walked in the Memorial Day parade Monday in downtown Columbia. The team was supposed to parachute in at the opening of the parade but was unable to because of high winds.

The Columbia Community Band directed by John G. Patterson played the national anthems for both Canada and the United States at a Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday at the Boone County Courthouse.
