An Angus steer that escaped from a pen ran loose through east Columbia and across campus Tuesday morning before it was killed. The animal injured one man.

A 1,300-pound Angus steer lies dead in the backyard of a home in the 1500 block of Anthony Street on Tuesday morning. The steer jumped a fence from a pen awaiting slaughter. The steer was shot after tranquilizers were ineffective in trying to subdue the animal.
