After spending 20 years away from competitive racing, Columbia resident and marathon runner Angie Turner started running again with the hopes of qualifying for the Olympics.
Angie Turner qualified for the Olympic Marathon Trials at the Columbus Marathon in Ohio. "I made a commitment that every person that qualified, I was going to drape them in an American flag once they finished," said race director Darris Blackford.

Columbia resident Angie Turner raced at the Olympic Marathon Trials in Houston in January. Unfortunately, she was forced to step off the course after three miles due to an pre-existing injury.

Angie Turner trains for triathlons as part of her routine to stay in shape. Five years ago, she stopped smoking cigarettes and cut back on fast food in an effort that eventually led her to the Olympic Marathon Trials.

"She still has her fastest marathons ahead of her if she wants it," said her coach, Joe Company. Angie Turner spent 20 years away from a sport in which she had once excelled.
