CHART: Declining union membership

September 3, 2012 | 5:28 p.m. CDT
Since 1989, the percentage of Missouri workers in a union has dropped by roughly a third, from just above 15 percent in 1989 to just below 10 percent of all state workers in 2010, the latest year available from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Nationally, a similar trend has taken place, with union membership declining around 4.5 percent during the same span. State data is unavailable for 1994, so that year has been omitted.
