Missouri Department of Conservation’s officials released more than 12,600 hatchery-raised lake sturgeon into three central Missouri rivers on Sept. 27. Sturgeon evolved more than 150 million years ago during the Jurassic Era. Lake sturgeon were once common in Missouri, but their numbers fell because of overfishing.
