The Southern Boone County Public Library moved to a new location Wednesday in Ashland. The new location is needed for more space to meet the needs of the community, said Mitzi St. John, the public relations manager of the Daniel Boone Regional Library system

The new Southern Boone County Public Library building sits on Main Street in Ashland. The ribbon cutting for the new building is Saturday and the library will begin normal hours Monday. The new building doubles the space of the old building according to Mitzi St. John, public relations manager of the Daniel Boone Regional Library system.

Hollis Stolz, a collection manager and children's librarian in Columbia, sorts children's DVDs Wednesday in the new Southern Boone County Public Library in Ashland. Workers from many different Boone County library locations, such as Fulton and Columbia, chose to work Wednesday in Ashland to help prepare the new building.

Mitzi St. John, the public relations manager of the Daniel Boone Regional Library system said the need for more space is due to an increase in population in Ashland, but also because the library serves people outside of Ashland, such as people from Jefferson City and southern Columbia.
