A snowflake is embroidered at Satin Stitches Sewing & Embroidery. Gail Marcy, the store's owner, organized an initiative to sew snowflakes to decorate the new school for Sandy Hook Elementary students in Newtown, Conn. Customers and volunteers can download the pattern online or use the store's machines and supplies for free to create the snowflakes.
