Roberta Cason, a first-year volunteer, rings the Salvation Army bell outside Hyvee on Monday. Cason had been outside for two hours of her nine-hour shift in 25 degree weather. The Salvation Army hoped to raise $352,710 this year to provide services year round, including a shelter for men, women and parents with children, emergency food and clothing and youth character building classes.
