Criss Clark, dressed as the Statue of Liberty, advertises for a tax service on Providence Road as the temperature dropped to 25 degrees on Thursday. He wears two pairs of socks, long basketball shorts under his jeans, four shirts and a leather jacket to stay warm during his five-hour shift.

Criss Clark waves a sign Thursday on Providence Road. "The key to being a good waver is connecting with the traffic. Eye contact, smiling, moving around a lot. Even if they flip you off, it means they're looking at you," Clark said. "I just usually give them a thumbs up."
