Professor led search for highest prime number to date

Computer science and mathematics professor Curtis Cooper at the University of Central Missouri led a group that last month found the 48th known Mersenne prime. It's the third such number discovered at the University of Central Missouri, an 11,800-student campus in Warrensburg, about 50 miles east of Kansas City.
