In this Jan. 31 photo, Ellen Freeman talks about her experience of recovering from the fungal infection she developed after coming into contact with aerosolized spores of apophysomyces trapeziformis in the May 2011 tornado during an interview at Spring River Christian Village in Joplin. At age 77, she is the oldest person to survive the fungus, which has left her with a deep impression in her right thigh. She was hospitalized for nearly four months with a fractured neck and hip, and a laceration to her head.
