CHART: Columbia area hits lowest point in unemployment in 2012

The unemployment rate of the Columbia area hit 4.1 percent in December 2012, the lowest point since 2009. The employment gap between the Columbia area and Missouri was widened by 3 percent compared to 2011.

The Columbia area was reported to employ about 97,200 people for nonfarm positions in December 2012. The following graphic shows the breakdown of employment in the government and private sectors.
