Michael Wooton tapes his thumb to prevent getting more blisters from holding his paddle during the MR340 race Wednesday at the Katfish Katy's Campgrounds checkpoint. The checkpoint is 188 miles from the starting point where racers can stop to rest, eat or exchange supplies during the race. Wooton prefers not to wear gloves to prevent blisters because they cause his hands to become waterlogged.
