September 11, 2013 | 5:02 p.m. CDT
Before the conflict in Syria began about two and a half years ago, the population was about 23 million. Since then, about 7 million Syrians have been displaced from their homes because of the conflict, one million more than the population of Missouri. The number of Syrians who have been killed in the conflict is more than 110,000, just slightly less than the population of Columbia.
