Missouri River at Eagle Bluffs

Management of the Missouri River water levels, which are controlled under the 1944 Flood Control Act, has again become a point of contention between the upper and lower basin states because of a recent proposal to reassess the Act. Northern states, such as South Dakota, are more concerned about the fish population, while states along the lower basin, such as Missouri, prioritize flood prevention and barge navigation.
