Kurt SchaeferKurt Schaefer is the Republican candidate. An attorney at Lathrop & Gage in Jefferson City, he has previously worked as deputy director and general counsel for the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and as a special prosecutor for the Missouri attorney general's office. Schaefer says he would work to bring money and jobs to the district by being an advocate for MU. If elected, he says, his first act would be to get legislative approval for an extension of the Katy Trail, which would be funded by an agreement reached with AmerenUE after the Taum Sauk reservoir collapse. Schaefer has been endorsed by the Republican Leadership Council for his stances on lower taxes, less government involvement and socially tolerant views. He said he would support stem-cell research at MU. |
