A 'genius' of ragtime

Reginald R. Robinson has played at the Blind Boone Ragtime and Early Jazz Festival since 1994. He developed a passion for ragtime growing up in Chicago, where he still lives. Robinson’s family could afford neither a piano nor lessons, so he taught himself to play on a small electronic keyboard. In 2004, he was granted a $500,000 MacArthur “genius” award, earning him national attention.

A Tuskegee Story

In 1944 and 1945 George Boyd trained at Keesler Field in Biloxi, Miss. During his career in the Air Force he witnessed the change in American society, from one of segregation to equality. Listen as he tells his story to two classes of Benton Elementary School third graders.
