The Columbia Fire Department hosted a grand re-opening of its Fire Station No. 3. The station is owned by MU, which allows the department free use of the station.
Gerald Brouder, the 16th president of Columbia College, announced his retirement Thursday. His retirement is effective Aug. 1.
The Columbia Center for Urban Agriculture began in 2008 when three MU graduates decided to do something involving urban agriculture. The organization now runs a 1.3-acre farm at Smith and Fay streets, sells produce to several high-end restaurants, provides landscaping services, organizes educational visits for middle school students, builds community gardens for low-income residents and organizations and attracts more and more volunteers and community affection.

Kittikoon Chompupong has opened Thip Thai Cuisine restaurant on Broadway. Chompupong is the restaurant's owner and chef.
The Otts have tapped state historic preservation tax credits to renovate a number of historical buildings downtown, including the Stephens Building.

The Missouri men's basketball team defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide, 84-68 on Tuesday at Mizzou Arena.
Kyle Cook and Taylor Bacon have opened Hitt Records on the top floor of the Ragtag Cinema.
Alabama won the BCS National Championship college football game Monday, beating out Notre Dame, 42-14.

Robert Burlinski and his mother, Iwona Galijska, are preparing to open Cafe Poland on Locust Street.
Cranes are used to pull a rock out of the Mississippi River as part of efforts to deepen the waterway on Monday. The work is being completed just outside of Thebes, Ill. The rock-clearing effort is considered vital in ensuring that stretch of river remains open to barge traffic.

MU students designed and modeled dresses for Friday's Mizzou Botanic Garden Plant Fashion Show at the Memorial Student Union.
Gun buyers and sellers brought out large numbers of assault rifles and high-capacity magazines at a gun show at the Central Missouri Events Center. The show continues Sunday.
The Heidelberg, a Columbia bar and restaurant located on the edge of MU's campus, celebrates its 50th anniversary Saturday.

MU student Stacy Stewart launched an after-school program, Desire to Aspire, for young girls at Lange Middle School. She brings in guest speakers and plans different activities for the girls. In early December, Jeanne Szkolka, owner of the Columbia Dance Academy, volunteered her time to teach a jazz class.
