On Oct. 2, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that H1N1 is now widespread in the United States. Federal health officials opened the national stockpile of the new flu vaccine and began taking orders from states. Missouri received its first orders of the vaccine, about 17,000 doses of the aerosol mist form, on Wednesday.
