Kids and adults came out to celebrate African-American history at the Juneteenth celebration at Douglass Park on Saturday, June 20, 2009 in Columbia. The celebration commemorates the emancipation of slaves in Texas in 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation took effect. Saturday’s celebration included food, games and music, as well as historical exhibits provided by Lincoln University.
