Charlotte Ann Welborn

Charlotte Ann Welborn of Columbia died Tuesday, June 16, 2009. She was 81.

She was born April 1, 1928, in Moberly to Hayden and Mary (Staats) Carter.

She was an educator for the Kansas City, Missouri School District for more than 37 years, specializing in the gifted program. She was an honorary member as well as a housemother for the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority at Baker University for seven years.

In addition, she was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Independence, the Assistance League, the Red Hat Club, Delta Kappa Gamma and the AAUW. She was active in the Susanna Circle at the Missouri United Methodist Church. She also volunteered at Boone Hospital.

"She was a very friendly person; had a lot of friends and acquaintances," said Mary Palmatary, who was also involved in the Susanna Circle. "To her, no one was a stranger."

Mrs. Welborn is survived by a daughter, Beth, of Hingham, Mass.

Her husband Don and her sister Caroline died earlier.

Services, conducted by the Rev. Jim Bryan and David Jones, will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, June 19, at Missouri United Methodist Church, 204 S. Ninth St.
