Obit Hagan

Dr. Albert Ross Hagan taught Agriculture Economics at MU for 40 years. He was a professor Emeritus and a long-time Columbia resident.

Dr. Hagan died Thursday, June 25, 2009 at the Boone Hospital Center. He was 99.

He was born January 2, 1910, in rural Mercer County to Ross Newton Hagan and Ethel Pearl Shirley Hagan.

Dr. Hagan received his bachelor's and master's degrees in Agriculture from MU and his Ph.D. from Michigan State University. He also served as an agriculture adviser to many countries for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization and MU.

In addition to working for MU, Dr. Hagan was an active member of the Fairview Road Church of Christ, the Golden K Kiwanis Club, the FarmHouse Fraternity and was a Mizzou Tiger Booster since 1934.

Dr. Hagan is survived by his wife Melva (Snodgrass) Hagan; two sons, Don Hagan of Sunrise Beach and Randy Hagan of Richmond, Va.; a brother, Raymond Hagan of Jefferson City; a sister, Reva Cornett of Columbia; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Two sisters, Jessie and Vee, and two brothers Darrell and Raycel, died earlier.

Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at Fairview Road Church of Christ at 201 S Fairview Road in Columbia. Services will be held at 2 p.m. after the visitation. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, 1217 Business Loop 70 W.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Albert R. Hagan Scholarship fund at MU's Department of Agricultural Economics or Fairview Road Church of Christ.
