Ruey Clay Burks
Ruey Clay Burks of Columbia died at his home Thursday, July 2, 2009. He was 89.
Mr. Burks was born on April 14, 1920, in Hallsville to Emmett and Zula (Pickering) Burks. He married Rena Marjorie Redmond on June 6, 1940.
Mr. Burks served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He was employed by Holsum Bakery for 35 years and Stephens College Security Department for 14 years.
He is survived by his three children, Glenda King of Cairo, Mo., Donald Clay Burks of Prairie Home, and Denise Shaw of Hallsville; eight grandchildren, Shannon Runyon, Shawn Guest, Courtney Guest, Lisa Hill, Brooke Hill, Kerri Seversen, Hilary Shaw and Kim Simpson; and six great-grandchildren, Rhiannon Runyon, Aidan Runyon, Carson Guest, Sophia Guest, Olivia Mitchell and Devin Belcher.
His wife, three brothers and two sisters died earlier.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Memorial Funeral Home.
