Claude E. Pauley Jr.

COLUMBIA — Claude E. Pauley Jr. enjoyed reading.

Mr. Pauley died at his home Friday, Oct. 16, 2009. He was 85.

He was born July 19, 1924, in Columbia to Claude E. and Martha Jane Smith Pauley Sr.

He married Lois Searls on Dec. 27, 1947, in Merriam, Kan.

Mr. Pauley attended MU, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity.

He served as a C-47 Transport Pilot in the Army Air Corp during World War II. Before the war, he was the leader of the Claude Pauley Band, which played Big Band music.

Mr. Pauley is survived by two children, Claude Michael Pauley of Boonville and Janet Pauley of Middletown, Del.; two grandchildren; stepgrandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his companion of 17 years, Jean Rice of Columbia.

His wife, Lois Searls Pauley, and a stepgranddaughter, Cassi Black, died earlier.

A gathering will start at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Columbia Area Senior Center, 1121 Business Loop 70 E. Services will follow at 4 p.m.

Inurnment will be at a future date in the Peace Columbarium in the veterans section of Memorial Park Cemetery, 1217 Business Loop 70 W.
