Helen Fernandez
COLUMBIA — Helen Fernandez of Columbia died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009. She was 78.
She was born Feb. 12, 1931, to Andrew J. and Mary Palko Megliss. She married Frank C. Fernandez, who died Dec. 10, 1977.
Mrs. Fernandez was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Columbia.
She is survived by two daughters, JoAnne Fernandez Kniptash and Michelle Fernandez; a brother, John Megliss; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.
Her son, Michael Charles Fernandez; three brothers, Andrew, Jimmy and Chucky; and two sisters, Louise and Betty, died earlier.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Nilson Funeral Home, 5611 E. St. Charles Road. Services, conducted by the Rev. John Fussner, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
