Elicia Ann Fischer

Elicia Ann "Annie" (Holt) Fischer of Columbia died Thursday, July 15, 2010. She was 72 years old.

She was born to Duane and Lillian (Davidson) Holt on March 13, 1938, in Placerville, Calif.

She grew up in Grass Valley, Calif., with her parents, brother, Lee, and sister, Patricia. In 1956, she graduated from Grass Valley High School. She was very active in Job’s Daughters, a charity and service organization for women.

In 1961, she married Robert Fischer. They had two children, Marci and Milton Fischer.

After moving to Chico, Calif., in 1969 she received a master's degree in art history.

Until 1982, she owned Fischer Galleries located in downtown Chico, while also teaching at Butte Community College.

After a divorce from her husband and her mother's death, she decided to move back to Grass Valley, where she continued to teach at primary and secondary education schools until 1987.

She earned a real estate license and worked for Rolling Hills Realty until 1995, when she decided to join the Peace Corps. She was one of the oldest volunteers to be approved.

For two years, she taught English in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, and then returned to the United States.

She helped her son Milton with his guide business in Oregon and then moved to Columbia to help her daughter Marci and son-in-law Larry raise their three sons.

She is survived by sister Patricia Peterson of Modesto, Calif.; daughter Marci Auman of Columbia; three grandsons, Ryan Merrick of Perrysburg, Ohio, Adam Merrick of Chico, Calif., and Kyle Merrick of Columbia; and a niece and nephew, Leanne and Dimitri Guzman of Modesto, Calif.

Her son, Milton Fischer, died earlier.

Services will take place at 5 p.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 235 S. Church St., in Grass Valley, Calif.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that a donation be made to the Milton L. Fischer Memorial Scholarship at Reed College. Donations can be made online at www.reed.edu/givingtoreed.
