Mary Ann Dugan

Mary Ann Dugan of Jefferson City died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010. She was 83.

She was born Oct. 3, 1927 in St. Louis to William and Helen Wuertenberg.

She was a member of the clerical staff at International Shoe Company in downtown St. Louis during the late 1940s and 1950s.

She married Robert S. Dugan on Jan. 5, 1958 and the couple bought a small farm in Hawk Point.

In 1962, the Dugans bought another farm near Brookfield, where they raised their three children and were full-time farmers for 38 years. They both served as township representatives on the Linn County Democratic Central Committee and were members of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Mr. and Mrs. Dugan enjoyed traveling and took a trip to San Diego for their 25th wedding anniversary. They traveled with their adult daughters, Roberta Heins and Debbie Wren, and their families to Yellowstone National Park. The Dugans also visited their son, Joseph, when he lived in Washington, D.C., and went on bus tours.

After retiring from farming in 2000, the Dugans moved to Ashland, where one of their daughters, Debbie Wren, lives. The couple took daily walks around Ashland or inside the Ashland Optimist Club building when the weather was bad. They became members of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Jefferson City.

Mrs. Dugan is survived by three children, Joseph of Webster Groves, Roberta Heins of Marceline and Debbie Wren of Ashland; two sisters, Marcella Zufall of Ballwin and Dolores Bradford of Osage Beach; a brother, Joseph Wuertenberg of St. Louis; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Dugan died earlier.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Robinson Funeral Home, 601 N. Henry Clay Blvd. in Ashland. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 216 Broadway in Jefferson City. Burial will be at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, where Mrs. Dugan's husband is buried.
