Gwendolyn Knight Lucas

COLUMBIA — Gwendolyn Knight Lucas, formerly of Columbia, was a gift to friends and family with a zest for life and a traveling spirit. Mrs. Lucas died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010. She was 92.

She was born to Leo Paul and Katherine (Moritz) Knight on March 31, 1918, in Triplett, according to information provided by the family. She relocated to Columbia with her parents and brother while in the fifth grade, where she met her childhood sweetheart and future husband, Reuben E. Lucas Jr. They married in December 1941.

They had two daughters, Katherine Rodgers and Linda Reed.

As an MU student, Mrs. Lucas was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and remained active in its alumnae association. She was a member of the Circle of King’s Daughters and attended Missouri United Methodist Church. Mrs. Lucas enjoyed playing bridge, and she golfed until she was 80.

Mrs. Lucas recently relocated to Reno, Nev.

She is survived by her daughters; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in Columbia in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to charity.
