James Lewis Rogers

James (Jim) Lewis Rogers of Columbia died Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, at University Hospital. He was 33.

He was born to David Baskett and Genie Banks Rogers on Nov. 18, 1976, in Columbia. Mr. Rogers attended Hickman High School and graduated in 1995.

He was described by his family as a man that "loved his family and living in Columbia."

After working for more than 10 years, Mr. Rogers returned to school at Columbia College where he earned a bachelor's degree in December 2009. While there, he joined the Pi Alpha Theta history honor society.

Some of Mr. Rogers' interests included studying history, coins and stamps.

When his father died, Mr. Rogers assumed his responsibilities as deacon at the First Christian Church.

His colleague John Yonker, senior minister of First Christian Church, said Mr. Rogers was a sensitive person. He remembered Mr. Rogers calling to express his sympathy when Yonker's in-laws died.

"Jim was thoughtful," Yonker said. "He was always a true friend of mine."

Mr. Rogers is survived by his mother; four siblings, Mary Rogers Gordon, Ann Louise Rogers, Hartley Garrard Banks Rogers and John Woodson Rogers; and seven nieces and nephews.

His father and two infant brothers died earlier.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 9 at First Christian Church, 101 N. Tenth St.
