Mary Marguerite Kirk Lohman
Mary Marguerite Kirk Lohman was described as “loved by anyone that met her."
“She was truly a lovely lady,” said her daughter Mary Lou Dworak.
Mrs.Lohman died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, after a 12-year battle with Alzheimer’s. She was 84.
She was born May 24, 1926, in Memphis, Tenn., to Marvin and Lena Kirk.
Her family moved to Dexter, and she graduated from Dexter High School in 1944.
After she graduated, Mrs. Lohman worked for Doane Agricultural Services for six years, where she met her husband, Louis Lohman.
Mr. and Mrs. Lohman were married June 1, 1950, and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. They moved to a farm in Woodlandville in March of 1951 and became members of Woodlandville United Methodist Church the same year. Mrs. Lohman worked for MFA Oil Co. and the Missouri License Bureau and volunteered for Long-Term Care Ombudsman.
Mrs. Lohman's family said she could be counted on for encouragement and support.
“I’m a nurse and due to my mother constantly telling me I could do it when I thought I couldn’t, I attribute my becoming a nurse to her,” Dworak said.
Mrs. Lohman is survived by her husband, Louis; four children, Louis Kirk Lohman of La Crosse, Wisc., Ira Lee Lohman of Terre Haute, Ind., Mary Lou Dworak of Lee's Summit and Ann Maring Toellner of Columbia; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
