R. Carol Hatfield

COLUMBIA — R. Carol Hatfield of Hallsville died at her home on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010. She was 69.

She was born Aug. 20, 1941, in Kirksville to Ernest and Crystal Ayers Darr.

She married Olin Hatfield in Green Castle on June 12, 1959.

Mrs. Hatfield graduated that year from Novinger High School and went on to work as nurse for more than 20 years in Columbia.

She was a member of Columbia United Church of Christ.

She enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking and cross-country trail riding. Even while undergoing chemotherapy, Mrs. Hatfield accomplished one of her lifelong goals — learning how to play the fiddle.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Janet Horne and Julie Bolton, both of Hallsville; a sister, Barbara Smith of Novinger; a brother, Larry “Joe” Darr of Bonner Springs, Kan.; and five grandchildren, Tyler Horne, Heather Parnell, Amber Horne, Benjamin Bolton and Bryan Bolton.

Her parents died earlier.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Columbia United Church of Christ, 3201 I-70 Drive N.W. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, 1217 Business Loop 70 W.
