Robert "Rob" Wilborn
COLUMBIA — Robert "Rob" Wilborn of Columbia died Friday, Dec. 17, 2010. He was 55.
Mr. Wilborn was born Sept. 19, 1955, in Knob Knoster, Mo., to Harold Dean and Ledelle Wilborn.
Mr. Wilborn taught English literature for almost 20 years, including in Moberly and Springfield. He graduated from MU with a bachelor's degree in general studies, and he received his master's degree in English literature and creative writing from the University of Nebraska. Ric Wilborn, Mr. Wilborn's brother, said Mr. Wilborn wrote poetry and short stories.
For the last 10 years of his life, Mr. Wilborn ventured into the field of construction.
"He just always loved working with his hands," said Ric Wilborn, his brother. "He got that from his grandfather."
Mr. Wilborn was hired by a construction company, but after he learned a bit more about the field he started his own company. Mr. Wilborn painted houses, worked on roofing and was a licensed plumber and electrician.
Mr. Wilborn is survived by his father, Harold, and stepmother Nancy Wilborn; brother Ric and wife Deedie Wilborn; brother Dean and wife Jackie Wilborn; and sister Rhonda Wilborn.
His mother, Lidelle Wilborn, died earlier.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Parkade Baptist Church, 2102 N. Garth Ave.
