Sylvia Turley Price Lasley

Sylvia Turley Price Lasley of Columbia died at University Hospital on Saturday, Dec. 25, 2010. She was 92.

Mrs. Lasley was born May 4, 1918, at Blackwater to John and Emma (Moseley) Turley. She married Woodrow W. Price in 1936, and he died in 1975. She married John Lasley in 1991.

She was a 1935 graduate of Blackwater High School and attended Harding College in Searcy, Ark. She moved to Kansas City during World War II while her husband was in the Navy, and she worked as an airplane parts inspector at Pratt & Whitney. Twenty years later, she moved back to Blackwater, where she was a substitute teacher at the high school in Nelson and then a bookkeeper for Blackwater schools until her retirement in 1979.

She was a member of Fairview Road Church of Christ and volunteered at Boone Hospital Center for 10 years. She quilted at the Columbia Area Senior Center for 11 years.

She liked to cook, bake, read, play cards, walk and bike. She logged over 6,000 miles on her exercise bike. She also enjoyed attending a Bible study group and having friends over for dinner.

Survivors include her sons, Kirk M. Price of Blue Springs and Michael W. Price of Blackwater; her grandchildren, Justin Price, Bradley Price, Kevin Price, Shelby Price, Michael Price, Sylvia Ann Price and Melissa Chevalier; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her first husband, her second husband; sisters, Curtis “Kris” Evans and Kathryn “Dale” Burns; and brothers, J.D. Turley, Bill Turley, Pearson Turley and Moseley Turley, died earlier.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Blackwater Church of Christ, 307 Scott Ave. in Blackwater. Burial will follow in Old Lamine Cemetery near Blackwater. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Fairview Road Church of Christ, 201 S. Fairview Road, Columbia.
