Thomas Laurence McCain
Thomas Laurence McCain of Columbia died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011. He was 64.
Mr. McCain was born July 23, 1946, to Laurence and Elline (McQuain) McCain. He was the second of 13 children. He married Diane (Smith) McCain on May 19, 1972.
After serving in the Navy, Mr. McCain went on to become a teacher in both Marshall and Columbia. As a teacher and a substitute teacher, he taught primarily junior and senior high school students.
In 2003, Mr. McCain retired from a supervisor position at Central Missouri Subcontracting Enterprises.
Just like his mother, Mr. McCain loved to watch "Jeopardy." He found great joy in teaching, fishing and playing cards. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Mr. McCain is survived by his wife, Diane McCain; one daughter, Amy McCain of Kansas City; two sons, Matthew Earl of Mount Crawford, Va., and Benjamin Thomas of Columbia; 12 siblings, Jim, Joe and David, all of Colorado, Terry of Washington, Gerald of Oregon, Patrick of Wisconsin, Jonathon of Arkansas, Michael of Kentucky, Gary of Washington, D.C., Dennis of New York, and Karen and Janet, both of Virginia; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Newman Center, 601 Turner Ave. A service will follow. Memorial donations may be made to the Central Missouri Sheltered Workshop, 4040 Bearfield Road, Columbia, MO 65201, or to Father Tolton Catholic High School, 903 Bernadette Drive, Columbia, MO 65203.
