Genevieve Masters
COLUMBIA — Genevieve (Fleischmann) Masters of Columbia died Thursday, March 3, 2011. She was 92.
She was born April 3, 1918, in Manley, Neb. After meeting her husband, Alfred, Mrs. Masters moved to Kansas City where she had three daughters and a son.
Mrs. Masters was a homemaker and was active in the church. She attended Northminster Presbyterian Church in Kansas City and Oakland Christian Church in Columbia.
She is survived by three daughters, Carol Lee and husband, Tommie, of Columbia, Sharon Brown and husband, Jerry, of Kansas City, and Jane Childs and husband, Bob, of Poplar Grove, Ill.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband died earlier.
Her daughter Carol Lee said her mother highly valued family.
“She loved life, her family and getting together for family reunions,” Carol Lee said.
Mrs. Masters enjoyed a few hobbies, including knitting and sewing. She also did volunteer work at the church making quilts for the needy.
“She quilted every week,” Carol Lee said. “She did a lot of sewing when we were kids growing up. I remember her sewing way past into Christmas Eve once, trying to get something done.”
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oakland Christian Church, 2929 E. Oakland Church Road in Columbia. Burial of her cremains will be at a later date in Kansas City.
