Patricia "Pat" Beall Sullivan

Patricia "Pat" Beall Sullivan died Thursday, March 3, 2011, from complications following a stroke. She was 70.

Ms. Sullivan was born March 18, 1940, in Des Moines, Iowa. She graduated from Johnston High School and Mercy School of Nursing in Des Moines.

After graduation, she moved to Ozark, Ala., and became a small aircraft flight instructor in Ozark and in Creston, Iowa. In her spare time, Ms. Sullivan was a volunteer firefighter with the city of Taylor, Ala.

Ms. Sullivan moved to Columbia in 1994. She later retired from the State of Missouri Department of Health.

Ms. Sullivan was also a passionate volunteer for the American Red Cross and assisted in many recovery efforts around the nation after disasters. In addition to her love of volunteering, she enjoyed a variety of hobbies including flower gardening, glass etching, and reading. She was also a member of the Mensa society.

She is survived by one son, Bryan Sullivan McDaniel of Shreveport, La.; two sisters, Judy Sullivan of Colfax, Iowa and Susan Herr of Waukee, Iowa; and three nieces and three nephews in Iowa.

Her parents, Gerald M. and Opal R. Sullivan, and husband, Jerry McDaniel, died earlier.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m to 11 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2011, at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 West.

Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. at the Green Castle Cemetery on Highway 6 in Green Castle.
