Billy Fletcher

Billy Fletcher of Columbia died Sunday, March 13, 2011. He was 75.

He was born Nov. 21, 1935, in Jefferson City to Cecil and Goldie Fay (Lairmore) Fletcher.

He married Marie Sims on Oct. 20, 1990.

Mr. Fletcher served in the Army during the Korean War. He worked as a mechanic, pipe fitter, welder and truck driver for most of his life. He also worked at KMC Manufacturing for five years.

“His biggest hobby was crafts; he did woodwork,” his wife said. “He liked to work on automobiles. He liked to work outside and take care of the yard.”

Mr. Fletcher is survived by his wife, Marie Fletcher; three children, Buddy Fletcher, Cynthia Fletcher and Teri Thompson; three sisters, Opal Spencer, Viola Wilson and Ester Longcrier; one brother, Earl Fletcher; one stepson, David Sims; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; four step-great-grandchildren; and brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Three brothers and one sister died earlier.

Services will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W. Burial with military honors will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, 1217 Business Loop 70 W.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Marie Fletcher.
