Laura B. Spence

Laura B. Spence of Columbia died of a brain tumor at Boone Hospital on Thursday, March 17, 2011. She was 49.

Mrs. Spence was born May 24, 1961, in Richmond Heights to Richard Sr. and Dorothy (Walsh) Holden.

She graduated from the Sinclair School of Nursing at MU inMay 1983. She was a registered nurse for Boone Hospital Center for 20 years and spent the last six years working in the postpartum ward.

Mrs. Spence married Joseph Spence on Oct. 15, 1983, at St. John’s Bosco Catholic Church in Creve Coeur.

Mrs. Spence loved to read, work puzzles and travel around the U.S. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Mrs. Spence is survived by her husband, Joseph; her parents, Richard and Dorothy Holden; five brothers, Rick Holden and wife, Ellen, of Watertown, Wis., Mike Holden of Columbia, Phil Holden and wife, Karen, of Webster Groves, Pete Holden of St. Louis, and Pat Holden and wife, Debi, of St. Charles; a sister, Julie Maledy and husband, Kevin, of Millersburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 903 Bernadette Drive. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the church with Monsignor Flanagan officiating. Burial will be atColumbia Cemetery, 30 E. Broadway.
