John A. Young

COLUMBIA — John A. Young of Columbia died Wednesday, March 30, 2011, of cancer. He was 66.

Mr. Young was born Sept. 28, 1944, in Minneapolis to Athel R. and Elizabeth Young.

He moved to Boonville with his parents in 1958 and later graduated from Saints Peter and Paul High School. He attended Rockhurst College in Kansas City and later attended MU and earned a bachelor's degree in general studies in 2009.

After serving in Vietnam with the Army, Mr. Young returned to Boonville and became an entrepreneur and businessman.

Mr. Young married Priscilla Bishop in 1982.

Mr. Young is survived by three children, Cerra Fleming and husband, Jeremy, of Boonville, Christopher Young and Marie Young, both of Columbia; two sisters, Betsy Grimes of Tucson, Ariz., and Mary Faulkner of Nashville, Tenn.; and grandchildren.

Mr. Young was preceded in death by his wife; a twin sister, Gertrude Young; and his parents.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Stephens Lake Park in Columbia.
