Alice R. Brownlee

Alice R. Brownlee of Columbia died on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at the age of 91. She is remembered as a kind and caring person who loved her children and her many friends deeply.

Mrs. Brownlee was born on March 27, 1920, in Little Rock, Ark., to Forrest Massie and Velma Lucille Trail Rowley. She grew up on her family’s farm at Trail Hill in New Haven.

After graduating from both Columbia College and the University of Missouri, Mrs. Brownlee married Richard S. Brownlee II on Oct. 27, 1941.

She was an active member of the Cecil Taylor Circle of Kings Daughters and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority’s national board. She was a supporter of the Friends of Arrow Rock and served on the board of the State Historical Society of Missouri.

Mrs. Brownlee is survived by one son, Richard S. Brownlee III and his wife Kate of Jefferson City; and one daughter, Margaret Brownlee of Columbia.

Her husband died on Feb. 14, 1990.

A memorial gathering will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday at Parker Funeral Service, 22 N. Tenth St. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, 1217 Business Loop 70 W.

Memorials may be given to Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority; Missouri Mansion Preservation Inc., 722 E. Capitol, Jefferson City, MO 65101; or the Missouri Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, 217 Oscar Drive, Suite A, Jefferson City, MO 65101.
