Virginia J. Orton
COLUMBIA — Virginia J. Orton died Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at Boone Hospital. She was 88.
She was born Feb. 26, 1923, in Potosi, Wis., to Adolph and Vera Schumacher.
She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in economics. Her family said she was a loving and devoted wife, mother and daughter.
She married Miles Orton in 1947.
Mrs. Orton worked at the YM-YWCA in Dubuque, Iowa. Her family said she loved reading, working with finances and spending time with family and friends. They said her strong faith helped her maintain a positive attitude throughout her life and she was a role model and inspiration to her family.
Mrs. Orton is survived by two daughters, Dianne Orton of Columbia and Sandra Turner of Grand Rapids, Mich.; four grandchildren, Hilary Trammell of Columbia, Whitney Quinn of Port Jefferson Station, N.Y., Brian Turner and John Turner, both of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and one great-granddaughter, Natalie Trammell of Columbia.
Her husband and a son, Stephen Orton, died earlier.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Epple Chapel at Lenior Woods, 3710 Lenior St.
