Doris Louise Gibson
COLUMBIA — Doris Louise Gibson of Nixa died Sunday, May 1, 2011. She was 81.
She was born July 25, 1929, in St. Joseph to Elmer and Zola Slaybaugh Stanton.
Mrs. Gibson lived in Columbia for 50 years. She worked as a secretary at Columbia Regional Airport, and she was a founding member of the Columbia Area Senior Center.
Her hobbies included fishing, piloting planes and playing pool.
Mrs. Gibson moved to Nixa 11 years ago to be near her son, Joel, said Lurline Griggs, her friend from the senior center.
"She was a kind person. She was fun-loving, and she loved to play pool," said Norine Katchum, a friend who spent winters with Mrs. Gibson in Texas.
Katchum said she talked about her sons and grandchildren "an awful lot."
"They (her sons) were the light of her eyes, especially after her husband died," Katchum said.
Mrs. Gibson is survived by her sons, John Gibson and his wife, Suzanne, of Cary, N.C., and Joel Gibson and his wife, Sheila, of Sparta; a sister, Ruth Fox; and four grandchildren, Krista Allen, Lee Gibson, Corey Gibson and Danielle Gibson.
Her sister, Opal Holley, and two husbands, William Koenig and Donald Gibson, died earlier.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Parker Funeral Service, 22 N. Tenth St., in Columbia.
