Ethel Lemonds

COLUMBIA — Ethel Christine (Johnson) Lemonds died Monday, May 2, 2011. She was 75.

Mrs. Lemonds was born Dec. 17, 1935, in Verona. to John Edwin and Docia Mae (Smith) Johnson. She was the youngest of six children.

Mrs. Lemonds attended MU where she received her bachelor's degree in nursing and an registered nurse license.

She met her husband, Ronald Lemonds, on a blind date in Columbia, which was set up by their siblings. They married on Feb. 1, 1958.

After spending 15 years in Norfolk, Neb., the couple moved to St. Louis where Ronald Lemonds was a general partner in the Edward Jones home office.They later moved back to Columbia.

Ronald Lemonds used to say Mrs. Lemonds could talk to a brick wall and get a conversation started, her family said in a submitted obituary.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, working in the garden and watching desert animals at her Tonto Verde, Ariz., winter home.

Mrs. Lemonds is survived by two children, Bryan Lemonds and his wife, Jody, of Bloomington, Ind., and Rhonda Brown and her husband, Steve, of Kansas City; and seven grandchildren, Rachel, Jacob, Jared, Zach, Alec, Aaron and Luke.

Her husband, Ronald Lemonds, died earlier.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Missouri United Methodist Church, 204 S. Ninth St., Columbia, MO 65201. Services will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, 1217 Business Loop 70 W., Columbia, MO 65203.
