Lucy May Hinshaw

Lucy May Hinshaw died Saturday, April 28, 2007, at Boone Hospital Center. She was 99.
She was born September 24, 1907, in Callaway County to James Lorenzo and Carolina Levina Clatterbuck. In 1930, she married E.R. “Cherry” Hinshaw.
For many years, Mrs. Hinshaw and her husband lived near Cedar Creek and the community of Englewood. There, Mrs. Hinshaw helped establish the Englewood Club and clubhouse . She was also a long-time member of New Salem Baptist Church.
Known to family and friends as “Mama Lu,” Mrs. Hinshaw said that to live in the hearts of others is not to die. She said she wanted people not to think of her as gone, but simply in another room and with them always.
She is survived by her daughter, Connie F. Waers, of Osage Beach; one son, Fred Hinshaw, of Columbia; two granddaughters, Lucy Cunningham, of Shawnee, Kan., and Laura Ingram, of Leawood, Kan.; two grandsons, Joseph Waers Jr., of Shawnee, Kan., and Todd Waers, of Sacramento, Calif.; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband and one grandson died earlier.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. on Friday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W. Services will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be at New Salem Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Online tributes may be left at memorialfuneralhomeandcemetery.com.
