Maxine Gladden Norman
COLUMBIA — Maxine Gladden Norman died on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at her home in Columbia. She was 86.
Mrs. Norman was born Feb. 3, 1925, to Seth and Myrtle Mae Taylor Gladden in Pulaski County.
She married Edward H. Vandergriff on April 30, 1939. He died in 1986. They raised their children in Waynesville.
On March 19, 1993, she married the Rev. Frank Norman in Columbia.
Mrs. Norman worked in the Waynesville Hospital and was as a nurse’s aide in Boone County Hospital. She liked being around her family and going to church. She also loved to travel and collected birdhouses and salt and pepper shakers from around the country, her daughter, Doreen Smith, said.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Frank Norman; a daughter, Doreen Smith of Mexico, Mo.; three stepchildren; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and eighteen great-great-grandchildren.
Her son, Edward L. Vandergriff, a daughter, Janet Sue Thomson, two brothers, Ernest Gladden and Earl Gladden, and two sisters, Ethel Jewel and Sylvia Lundstrom, died earlier.
Visitation is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Bach-Yager Funeral Chapel, 1610 N. Garth Ave. Services will follow at 11 a.m. Burial is set for 3 p.m. at Deerlick Baptist Church Cemetery, 21760 Reporter Road, in Waynesville.
