Nettie Jeanne Potter Heiwig
COLUMBIA — Nettie Jeanne Potter Heiwig of Columbia and formerly of Galva, Ill., died Tuesday, June 21, 2011. She was 80.
She was born in 1930 in Dayton, Ohio, to David and Leila Potter.
She attended Hanover College where she met her husband, William Heiwig. The couple was married for 41 years before Mr. Heiwig died in October 1990.
The couple owned Art'nStuff art and antiques store in Bishop Hill Colony, Ill., and Heiwig Industrial Sales in Galva, Ill.
Mrs. Heiwig was a lifetime member and past president of the Illinois State PTA and a member of chapter KA of the Philanthropic Educational Organization in Missouri. She was also a founding member of the Galva Arts Council.
When she moved to Columbia in June 1998, Mrs. Heiwig joined Fairview United Methodist Church. She lived at The Bluffs, where she played bingo and shared chocolates given to her by family members.
Mrs. Heiwig is survived by her three children, Stephanie Godke and husband, James, Michael Heiwig and wife, Karen, and Elaine Hassemer and husband, Mark; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Godke, Cathy Godke, Sarah Huber, John Huber, Lucas Hassemer, Sarah Hassemer and Hannah Hassemer; two sisters; and four nieces and nephews.
A private service is being held on Saturday at Rux Funeral Home, 313 Market St., Galva, Ill. Burial will be at Galva Cemetery. Memorials can be sent to First United Methodist Church of Galva, 200 NW Second Ave., Galva, IL 61434; The Bluffs Auxiliary, 3105 Bluff Creek Drive, Columbia MO 65201; or a charity of one's choosing.
